How's the weather?

In Udaipur, the weather can be quite warm during the day, especially if visiting outside the winter season, but it gets much more pleasant in the evening near the lakes. If you're visiting between October and March, temperatures are cool and beautiful. Try to avoid afternoons in the direct sun when it is hot.

Anything I need to know as a first-time traveller to Udaipur?

Keep some cash: Overall we recommend keeping some cash with you for local markets or auto-rickshaws. You can take out money from your debit card in most ATMs.
Carry an anti-mosquito spray and some basic meds with you (the usual ones you carry while travelling).
Since you'll be attending an event at Fateh Vilas by Fateh Collection, keep in mind that the property is nestled near the hills, so evenings there can sometimes carry a gentle breeze.
Comfortable walking shoes are a must for exploring the city's historic palaces and narrow, hilly streets.

Do I need a visa?

Which airlines do you recommend?

We recommend checking if there is a direct flight from your city to India's major hubs, as international travelers typically fly into Delhi or Mumbai first. From there, you can take a short, direct domestic flight (around 1.5 hours) with airlines like Air India or Indigo straight into Maharana Pratap Airport Udaipur. We recommend avoiding booking tickets with airlines coming through the Middle East based on current situations (if things change, you can look into coming via Abu Dhabi or Dubai with airlines such as Etihad or Emirates to connect through Delhi or Mumbai).

How far is Fateh Vilas from the airport and how do I get there?

Maharana Pratap Airport is about 30 kilometers away from the property. The drive usually takes 35 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. It is highly recommended to coordinate with the wedding planning team for an airport transfer or pre-book a taxi, as relying on immediate cab availability at the airport can sometimes be stressful for first-time visitors.

What should I wear?

For the wedding events, you can expect a mix of traditional Indian attire and formal Western wear, depending on the specific ceremony. For exploring Udaipur outside the hotel, it is best to dress modestly. Lightweight, breathable fabrics are ideal, but if you are traveling in the winter months, definitely bring a shawl or light jacket for the cool evenings.

Is it safe to drink the tap water?

No, you should avoid drinking tap water. Stick exclusively to sealed, bottled water, which will be provided generously at the hotel and during all the wedding functions. It is also a good practice to use bottled water for brushing your teeth and to avoid ice in drinks when exploring local spots outside the resort.

How should I handle local transport for sightseeing?

While Fateh Vilas is situated a few kilometers from the bustling city center, the hotel can easily arrange comfortable private cars for you. For shorter trips within the old city, auto-rickshaws (tuk-tuks) are a fun and practical way to navigate the narrow, vibrant streets. Just be sure to negotiate the fare before getting in, or ask the hotel staff for a fair price estimate to your destination.

Can I pay for everything with my credit card?

While Fateh Vilas and larger boutiques or restaurants accept major international credit cards, India heavily relies on a local digital payment system that is difficult for short-term visitors to use. Because of this, it is highly advisable to keep Indian Rupees in cash for smaller purchases, local transport like auto-rickshaws, and tipping.

Do I need a sim card?

We highly advise you to make sure you have internet throughout your trip. The easiest would be to download an app such as Airalo and get an E-Sim for the duration of your stay in India. For a physical sim, your only feasible option is to get it directly at the international airport when you land in Delhi or Mumbai, which usually takes a while, before boarding your domestic connection.
